Safe Active Street program implements social active routes on quiet local streets, where speed limits are reduced to 30 km/h to allow for a safer shared street space. With lower traffic speeds, the streets become safer for walking and bike riding of all ages and abilities, as well as for drivers. They also form part of the City’s bicycle network linking community amenities such as schools, railway stations and shops. More information on the Safe Active Streets Program can be found on the Department of Transport website on
This project aims to provide an east-west connection for Ballajura residents between the existing Tonkin Highway pedestrian shared path and the Ballajura Central Shopping Centre. In addition, this SAS will tie into the proposed Tonkin Highway footbridge to provide Ballajura residents with better pedestrian/cycle access to the Malaga Train Station.
The project is also part of the Swan Cycle Network Plan which was adopted by Council in 2020. One of the 10 priority cycle alignments in the Plan is the Ballajura to Northlink WA Connection.

- Construction is TBA, however is proposed for 2025/26.
