Volunteering is defined by Volunteering Australia as ‘time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain’.
The City of Swan runs events to acknowledge Volunteers every year. This year for International Volunteer Day (December 5), the City has set aside resources to hold a large, inclusive event for all volunteers doing great things in our communities. Our intention with these events is to make them as accessible and meaningful as possible.
This year we have decided to hold the event at Weeip Park, Midland and promote as a free, family-friendly event for all who wish to attend. The rest of the decisions - catering, entertainment and activities - are all still being decided and we want to know what you would like to see.
Take our community survey or attend an in person or online event to send us your ideas.
The City recognises that our passions and interests aren’t always nearby. We would still invite you to attend our volunteer recognition events and celebrate your contribution as a volunteer.
If you volunteer for a community or group that completes their activities in the City of Swan we still consider you a volunteer here.
Yes!
Generally speaking, according to Volunteering Australia, there are two broad catagories of volunteering:
• formal volunteering where someone volunteers with an organisation, association, club, corporation or government, and
• informal volunteering where an individual is not associated with another entity, but still gives time for the common good of the community (e.g. chaperoning a school disco or helping an elderly neighbour mow their lawn)
We are inviting formal and informal volunteers to participate in this engagement program to understand the diversity of volunteering experiences.
